Gypsy Girl Concept

I was driving in the car today listening to the song. A few shots came to mind. This is a concept painting of our gypsy girl just as the sheet of rain starts to fall. She smiles at the gypsy man, who smiles back at her.

I was also trying out some silhouettes of the Gypsy girl today, mostly her outfit design.

  1. Awesome shot idea! I like the colors in that image as well, but she looks a bit like a marionette or a doll- I'm not sure why, maybe the roundness of her cheeks? Maybe we could push a little more towards fierce!

As for the silhouettes! Those are awesome! I don't know definitively at the moment about which is going to be more efficient to animate, but aesthetically, I like far right one. Remember in the Iron and Wine video when she would kick and the dress would fly up behind her? I was thinking there could be some shots (not that one, oh man that could get technical) but some shots of the ruffles dragging along in the cobblestones. Also, (and I don't know if this is a no-no or not) but if she's, say, turning and she's got a long dress on, we won't need to animate her feet as intensely, with ball roll and such. We'll show the shifting of weight through her hips but her feet will only show in shots where her dress is taken up, etc. I will try to find more input on this issue. Great work!

  2. If you chose to animate a long dress, just make sure you don't use it to avoid animating the legs. Still animate the legs and feet. You obviously don't have to clean it up and make it perfect, but without knowing exactly what the legs and feet are doing, you'll have a really hard time making the dress look right. Trying to animate the dress without the legs underneath would likely be more frustrating (and thus time-consuming) than animating the legs first.
